Injury Update: Nieuwenhuizen undergoes successful knee surgery

Melbourne City goalkeeper James Nieuwenhuizen will be sidelined for an extended period after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee.

The 21-year-old has already undergone successful surgery to repair the injury, which occurred in an unfortunate accident at home.

In other injury news, Mathew Leckie will miss our next two fixtures after sustaining a moderate-grade calf strain in the final match before the international break.

Leckie has made encouraging progress over the past fortnight, already back running, and is expected to return to team training in the coming week.

There’s also positive news for Jimmy Jeggo, who is nearing a return as he continues to make strides in his recovery from an Achilles injury sustained in December. Jeggo has re-joined the team in training and is on track to be back in contention for selection in early to mid-April.

Meanwhile, Germán Ferreyra (concussion) and Yonatan Cohen (calf) have both been cleared and are available for selection after missing the final match before the break.
