YOUNG STAR: Apostolakis earns Future Matildas Scholarship

Alexia Apostolakis has been selected as a scholarship holder for the 2025 Future Matildas program, capping off what has been an impressive first season in Melbourne City colours.

The 18-year-old defender joined City ahead of the 2024/25 A-League Women’s campaign and has slotted into the backline seamlessly, playing a key role as the team completed an Invincible regular season, securing the Premiers Plate.

With experience beyond her years, her defensive qualities quickly made her a mainstay in a record-breaking City side, and her selection in Football Australia’s Future Matildas program reflects her impact and potential.

The Future Matildas program is designed to accelerate the development of the nation’s most promising U-20 and U-23 players through a full-time, high-performance environment.

The 2025 edition of the program introduces a host of enhancements ensuring a world-class platform for players to grow on and off the pitch.

With her sights firmly set on the A-League Women’s Finals Series and a crucial AFC Women’s Champions League Semi-Final, Apostolakis’ will look to finish the season strongly before commencing the program.
