Young gun signs three-year extension with City

Melbourne City FC is delighted to confirm that young midfielder Alessandro Lopane has signed a three-year contract extension, committing to the Club until the end of the 2027/28 season.

Still only 21, Lopane has already made over 50 senior appearances, including 42 in City colours, and has carved out a reputation for clutch contributions in key moments.

The midfielder’s 2024/25 campaign was disrupted by a serious knee injury, but he returned to the pitch in late March 2025 with an emphatic reminder of his quality, starting and scoring the match-winner against Sydney FC.

Lopane’s comeback sparked a run of eight straight starts to close out the regular season, before featuring as an impact substitute in City’s Grand Final triumph.

Among his highlights so far are a dramatic late winner in the Australia Cup against Oakleigh Cannons, his first goal in City colours, and an 88th minute equaliser against the Central Coast Mariners. It’s moments like these that have underlined his knack for making things happen on the pitch.

Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:

“We’re extremely happy to re-sign Alessandro and see him continue his development here at City.

“Despite an unfortunate setback in pre-season, his positivity and work ethic were outstanding, allowing him to return in top shape and make a big impact for us late in the campaign.

“He’s a player we’re really excited to watch grow in the coming years with consistent first-team football.”

Alessandro Lopane said:

“Melbourne City has been such a huge support for me both on and off the pitch, particularly throughout my rehab earlier in the season.

“I’ve loved my time in Melbourne so far and am really excited to extend my stay at City as we chase more silverware in the seasons to come.”
