SAFE HANDS, SIGNED ON: From debut to Champion, Beach commits

When Patrick Beach stepped onto the pitch for his professional debut in Round 1, he made an immediate statement, a clean sheet and three points away to Newcastle.

On the final day of the 2024/25 season, the 21-year-old stood in goal at a sold-out Grand Final and delivered once more, just as he had all season.

Now a Championship-winning goalkeeper with a new contract that keeps him at Melbourne City until the end of the 2027/28 season, Beach’s rise has been built on more than just raw talent.

“I knew pretty early on… I had a lot of confidence in myself, a lot of belief,” Beach said on Melbourne City’s official podcast,Talking Bullship.

“And I was like, this is where I deserve to be. This is where I want to be. This is where I want to keep progressing and keep performing.”

He didn’t miss a minute all season, finishing with a league-best 12 clean sheets, tied for most in the competition, and earned a call-up to the Socceroos’ training camp in May. But he’s far from satisfied.

“Winning the Championship last season was a moment I’ll never forget,” he said in the official announcement.

“Now I’m hungrier than ever to keep pushing, chase more success, and test myself at the next level in the AFC Champions League.”

The Sydney-born shot-stopper may be young, but he carries himself like someone who’s been around much longer. Whether he’s leading from the back, organising the defence, or launching City’s attack, Beach has become an important part of City’s team on the pitch.

That composure? It’s something he’s worked hard to develop.

“Honestly, I approach training and games the exact same,” he said.

“I’m just really enjoying it [here at City] and I’ve had a great season.”
