Melbourne City defender Alexia Apostolakis has been selected in the Young Matildas squad for the upcoming AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026™ Qualifiers.
Australia will compete in Group C of the qualification phase, with matches to be played against Tajikistan, Palestine and Chinese Taipei in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
Qualification at the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026™ will mean a direct pathway to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Poland 2026™.
Apostolakis’ selection continues a breakout 2025 for the 19-year-old, who enjoyed a strong debut season in City colours and was named the Club’s Rising Star at the 2024/25 Player of the Year Awards.
She has also recently been part of the Matildas set-up, earning selection for Australia’s friendlies against Panama in Western Australia where she made her senior international debut, earning cap #242 as a late substitute.
The Young Matildas will kick off their qualification campaign on Wednesday 6 August against host nation Tajikistan, before facing Palestine on 8 August and Chinese Taipei on 10 August.
