Melbourne City FC can confirm the departure of forward Mariana Speckmaier, with the Club agreeing to a transfer to English club Durham FC for an undisclosed fee.
Speckmaier joined City in July 2024 and made an immediate impact, becoming a key contributor across both domestic and continental competitions during a standout campaign.
The Venezuelan international lit up the AFC Women’s Champions League, scoring in all three Group Stage fixtures, before adding another four goals in her first seven A-League Women’s appearances.

In total, she made 28 appearances and scored 11 goals in City blue – helping drive the Club’s charge to a second-consecutive Premiers Plate and a maiden AFC Women’s Champions League Final appearance.
Speaking on Speckmaier’s impact and move abroad, Director of Football Michael Petrillo said:
“Mariana made a significant impact in her time at the Club – not just with her goals, but through her work ethic and ability to step up in big moments.
“We’re proud to have played a role in her development and to have helped facilitate this next step in her career. Securing a transfer fee is also a positive outcome for the Club and reinforces the strength of our program.
“This is another example of Melbourne City providing a platform for players to grow and earn opportunities abroad, and we’re confident Mariana will continue to thrive in the next chapter of her journey.”
Reflecting on her time at City, Mariana Speckmaier said:
“This past year at Melbourne City has been one of the most enjoyable and rewarding of my career. I’ve made incredible memories and been part of a really special group of people.

“Winning the Premiers Plate was a moment I’ll never forget, and I’m so grateful to the coaches, staff, and my teammates – as well as the fans – for all their support throughout my time here.”
Melbourne City FC thanks Mariana for her contribution and wishes her all the best as she begins this next chapter in her career.
