Melbourne City FC is delighted to announce the signing of 28-year-old English defender Ellie Wilson for the upcoming season.
Wilson makes the move across town after an impressive debut campaign in Australia, where she also holds citizenship, making 16 appearances and scoring once during the 2024/25 A-League Women’s season.
Before arriving in Melbourne, she built a strong career in her home country, featuring for Wolverhampton, Sheffield United and London Bees, while also winning the FA WSL2 with both Reading and Bristol City.
A versatile defender comfortable both centrally and at full-back, Wilson is known for her strength, fearlessness, and leadership qualities.
Her arrival adds further quality and depth to Michael Matricciani’s squad as City looks to chase a third consecutive Premiership and push for continental success in the AFC Women’s Champions League.
Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:
“We’re really pleased to welcome Ellie to the Club ahead of what will be another massive season.
“She brings defensive quality, versatility and experience that will complement our existing squad, and we believe she’ll be a great fit for the way we like to play.
“Her leadership and character will also be valuable additions as we continue to set high standards on and off the pitch.”
Ellie Wilson said:
“Joining such a successful and ambitious Club is a really exciting step for me.
“Melbourne City’s Women’s program is the best in Australia, and I’m looking forward to working closely with the coaches and support staff to keep developing my game and make a positive contribution.
“The chance to compete in the AFC Women’s Champions League is also an incredible opportunity, and I can’t wait to get started and prepare for what should be a huge season.”
