Melbourne City boss Aurelio Vidmar says his side is full of confidence but keeping its focus tight ahead of Friday night’s trip to face Brisbane Roar.
City will be looking to extend its unbeaten start to the Isuzu UTE A-League season after back-to-back wins and a strong run of form across both domestic and continental competitions.
Nabbout set for long-awaited return
One of City’s most popular figures is on the verge of a major milestone, with Andrew Nabbout named in the squad for the first time in almost 12 months following his recovery from an ACL injury.
Vidmar praised the winger’s professionalism and work ethic throughout his rehabilitation, saying he’s earned the chance to make his long-awaited return.
“He’s gone through a hell of a tough period since last year,” Vidmar said, “He’s fought his way back and is looking in pretty good shape.

“It will take him a little bit of time [to get to full match fitness], but it’s really positive for him and the group.”
Nabbout’s return adds further attacking depth for City, who have already seen strong performances in the front third across the opening rounds of the new campaign.
Caputo continuing to impress
Young striker Max Caputo has been one of City’s early standouts, with four goals in his last three appearances for the Club. Vidmar was full of praise for the 20-year-old, highlighting his mindset as a key reason for his early success.
“He’s in a good vein of form at the moment and hopefully it continues. It’s tough as a young striker – even as an experienced striker you go through peaks and troughs,” Vidmar said.
“Max is really level-headed. He comes from a really great family, and things are always really calm with him. He wants to learn, he keeps training hard, and that’s all we can ask.
Eyes on the Roar
While it’s been a mixed start to the season for Brisbane Roar with a win and loss for their first two fixtures, much has been made of the team’s physicality under new Head Coach Michael Valkanis.
“They’re a different kettle of fish from last season,” Vidmar said, “With a new coach coming in, things have changed, and it’s absolutely going to be a competitive game.
“It’s never easy going to Brisbane. We expect a really tough game and we need to be prepared mentally for what’s to come.”
