Melbourne City captain Rebekah Stott has been recognised on the world stage, earning a nomination for the FIFA Women’s World 11 ahead of the 2025 edition of The Best FIFA Football Awards.
The nomination places Stott among the world’s most elite defenders, and comes off the back of a history-making campaign with City.
The New Zealand centurion was the heartbeat of a City side that became back-to-back Premiers Plate winners during an extraordinary invincible run.
City became the first Australian side to reach the AFC Women’s Champions League Final, with Stott’s leadership once again central. Her performances across the tournament, in which she started every match and led from the front, saw her crowned Most Valuable Player of the inaugural edition.
Appointed captain ahead of the 2023/24 season, Stott has embodied City’s identity: fearless, consistent and relentlessly driven.
This latest milestone adds to a glittering CV that includes four Championships and four Premiers Plates in City colours, as well as over 100 club appearances, more than any other player in City Women’s history.
The FIFA Women’s World 11 is an annual selection of the world’s best players. Nominees are selected based on individual performances across club and international football during the calendar year.
Stott’s nomination places her alongside some of the biggest names in the game, including former City captain and current Arsenal star Steph Catley, who also received a nomination in the defenders category.
It marks a powerful moment for Melbourne City and Australian women’s football more broadly, showcasing the calibre of talent developing and thriving in the A-Leagues.
