Melbourne City’s 23-player squad has travelled to Vietnam ahead of the AFC Women’s Champions League Group Stage hub, with preparations now underway for Thursday night’s opening fixture against Lion City Sailors FC.
City fans back home won’t miss a moment of the action, with all three Group Stage fixtures to be streamed live and free on YouTube.
The team departed Melbourne on Monday full of confidence following Saturday’s commanding 4-0 win over Central Coast Mariners – a result that saw both Holly McNamara and Shelby McMahon net braces in a standout performance at the ctrl:cyber Pitch.
City’s travelling contingent features every contracted player other than young goalkeeper Dali Gorr Burchmore, as the Club begins its second appearance in Asia’s premier women’s club competition. After reaching the final in last season’s inaugural edition, Michael Matricciani’s side will be determined to go one better this time around.
Captain Rebekah Stott leads a strong group that includes in-form attackers McMahon and McNamara, while Matildas Karly Roestbakken and Bryleeh Henry continue to progress well in their respective returns from injury and could see minutes during the Group Stage.
City will play all three Group A fixtures at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, with the top two teams from each group – plus the two best third-placed sides – advancing to the knockout rounds.
