INTERNATIONAL CITY: November call-ups for plenty of City talents

Several Melbourne City stars have earned national team selection ahead of the November international window, with representatives announced across the Socceroos, Football Ferns and Joeys squads.

The news follows a strong run of form for both City’s senior sides, highlighted by back-to-back AFC Champions League Elite wins for the Men and a commanding 4–0 victory for our Women over Central Coast on Saturday.

Beach and Trewin earn Socceroos call-ups

After standout performances in recent weeks, Patrick Beach and Kai Trewin have both been named in Tony Popovic’s 24-player Socceroos squad for this month’s fixtures against Venezuela and Colombia.

It’s a well-deserved first senior national team selection for Beach, who had previously joined the squad as a train-on earlier this year. The 22-year-old has been in inspired form for City, producing back-to-back Player of the Match displays in the Club’s wins over Machida Zelvia and Melbourne Victory.

Trewin receives his third senior call-up and will again be pushing to make his international debut. A key figure for City since his arrival in Melbourne last season, the versatile defender has been a constant presence in Aurelio Vidmar’s side throughout the early stages of the campaign.

Jackson called up for Football Ferns

Deven Jackson has been selected in the Football Ferns squad to face the Matildas across two matches in November and December.

The call-up continues a big few weeks for the New Zealand international, who made her first City appearance in last weekend’s win over the Mariners following her debut international start during the previous window. It also marks another opportunity for the 20-year-old to build on an exciting start to her first season in City colours.

Several other City players could also be in the mix for international duty when the Matildas squad is named, with Holly McNamara, Shelby McMahon, Alexia Apostolakis, Laura Hughes and Leah Davidson all in strong early-season form.

Academy trio selected for Joeys

City’s proud record of national youth representation continues, with three Academy products named in Carl Veart’s Joeys squad for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers.

Akeem Gerald, Luka Demuth and Luke Becvinovski will represent Australia as the team takes on hosts Jordan, Bhutan, the Philippines and Iraq later this month.

Gerald’s selection comes off the back of a breakout few months for the young midfielder, who recently signed his first professional contract and became the youngest player ever to appear in the AFC Champions League.

Becvinovski also enjoyed a strong end to the VPL1 campaign, scoring three goals late in the season after his debut, while Demuth has continued his rapid rise after debuting for City’s Youth Team earlier this year.

Melbourne City congratulates all players selected and wishes them the very best for their upcoming international duty!
