Melbourne City FC joins TAC to ‘Band Together’ for Road Safety

Melbourne City FC is proud to join the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and a powerful lineup of Victorian sporting organisations in a new road safety initiative designed to save lives and prevent injuries on our roads.

The TAC has partnered with Football Victoria, Cricket Victoria and Basketball Victoria – with support from elite clubs including Melbourne City FC – to help bring vital road safety messages to tens of thousands of Victorians.

With more than 1700 community clubs across the three codes involved, the campaign aims to harness the influence of sport to drive cultural change around speeding and safe driving behaviour.

‘Band Together’ – Road Safety Round Coming to Football in April

Central to the partnership is the TAC Club Participation Program, which will see Road Safety Rounds take place across football, cricket and basketball.

In April, football clubs across Victoria will take part, with players and officials wearing blue TAC armbands to ‘Band Together’ in honour of those impacted by road trauma, and to raise awareness within their communities.

Slow Down. Be the Difference.

This summer’s program places a strong focus on the dangers of speed, with clubs set to share TAC’s two campaign messages:

  • “Be the Difference.”
  • “Make the right choice. Slow down on the road.”

Speeding is a factor in around 30% of lives lost on Victorian roads, and with 285 fatalities recorded this year, the TAC is urging all road users to take responsibility every time they get behind the wheel.

Melbourne City FC’s Role

As one of the elite partner clubs, Melbourne City FC will help amplify TAC’s message throughout the A-League season, encouraging our members, fans, players and wider football community to model safe driving behaviours.

Grassroots clubs have already proven to be trusted leaders in this space through TAC’s long-running Club Rewards program. This new initiative aims to expand that impact even further across Victoria.

TAC CEO, Tracey Slatter, said:

“The TAC is proud to expand its involvement in grassroots sport to reach as many people as possible with the simple but lifesaving message to slow down.”

“Whether it’s players, families, volunteers or supporters, sporting communities have the power to model safe driving behaviour and create lasting cultural change.”

Melbourne City FC CEO, Brad Rowse, said:

“Melbourne City is proud to stand alongside the TAC in this important campaign. Our club has always believed in the power of sport to influence positive change, and this partnership gives us an opportunity to reinforce a message that impacts every member of our community.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and we’re committed to helping spread that message across our club and the wider football community.”
