Melbourne City has locked in our squad for what shapes as another blockbuster Ninja A-League Melbourne Derby, set to take place this Sunday at the Home of the Matildas.
Fresh from a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Brisbane Roar last time out – a match that saw five different City players find the back of the net – we now turn our attention to cross-town rivals Melbourne Victory in a clash that looms large in the context of the season.
It will be the second meeting between the two sides this campaign, after we claimed bragging rights in the Christmas Derby with a dramatic 2-1 win. Having trailed for large parts of the contest, it was Holly McNamara who proved the difference on that occasion, netting a late winner to secure all three points.
Head Coach Michael Matricciani has now named his squad for Sunday’s encounter, with some welcome news on the injury front. Leah Davidson has been included after spending the past month sidelined with a knee injury, set to provide a big boost in midfield.
Izabella Rako has also been promoted to the extended squad ahead of the Derby, as City looks to maintain momentum following last weekend’s impressive performance.
As confirmed last weekend, Ellie Wilson is unfortunately set for an extended spell on the sidelines after sustaining an ankle injury.
