The next generation of sport and business professionals officially began their journey on Monday, with new students of the Melbourne City Institute of Sport & Business (MCISB) powered by Federation University stepping inside the City Football Academy, Melbourne – ctrl:cyber Campus at Casey Fields for their very first day of semester.
For many, it was the first time experiencing the elite environment they’ll now call their classroom, and it didn’t take long for the excitement to set in.
An Immersive First Day
Students were welcomed with a comprehensive tour of the City Football Academy, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the high-performance facilities used daily by Melbourne City FC’s A-League Men and Women.
From the training pitches to analysis spaces and recovery areas, the tour set the tone for what makes MCISB such a unique education experience: learning in the same environment where elite athletes prepare, train and compete.
The day continued with students enjoying lunch in the Heart of the City, where players have their meals, an opportunity to connect, build friendships and begin forming the tight-knit cohort that will work alongside one another throughout the semester.
Back in the classroom, the group officially commenced their studies, marking the beginning of a hands-on Diploma of Business & Sport delivered in partnership with Federation University.
What is the Melbourne City Institute of Sport & Business?
Based at the City Football Academy, MCISB offers students a rare opportunity to combine academic study with real-world experience inside a professional sporting organisation.
The program is designed for those who want more than a traditional classroom setting. Students are immersed in an elite sporting ecosystem, learning how departments across football, marketing, media, operations and commercial work together to drive success on and off the pitch.
A key component of the course includes up to 100 hours of work-integrated learning, providing practical experience across multiple areas of Melbourne City FC. From boardroom strategy to matchday operations, students gain first-hand insight into how a professional football club operates.
