Melbourne City duo Aziz Behich and Patrick Beach have been named in the Socceroos squad for the upcoming FIFA Series, with both players rewarded for their strong form in City colours.
The March international window will see Australia host a four-nation tournament featuring Cameroon, Curaçao and China PR, with matches to be played in Sydney and Melbourne as part of preparations for the FIFA World Cup.Â
Club captain Behich returns to the national team setup for the first time since June, when he memorably found the back of the net against Japan in a crucial result that helped secure the Socceroos’ place at the World Cup.
The experienced full-back has been a consistent performer for City throughout the current campaign, once again showcasing his leadership and quality on the left side.
Beach, meanwhile, continues his rise on the international stage after earning his senior debut in November against Venezuela.
The young goalkeeper has been in excellent form this season, registering an equal league-high eight clean sheets in the Isuzu UTE A-League, while also adding a further three during City’s AFC Champions League Elite campaign.
Joining the City pair in the squad is former teammate Kai Trewin, who has made an impressive start to life with New York City FC following his move in January.
There is also a strong City connection across the wider squad, with former fan favourites Jordan Bos, Connor Metcalfe and Aiden O’Neill all earning selection as part of the 26-player group.
The FIFA Series will provide the Socceroos with a valuable opportunity to fine-tune preparations on home soil, with two matches set to be played later this month as the road to the 2026 World Cup continues.
