Macca’s City Cup recognised with Victorian Sport Awards nomination

Melbourne City is celebrating a proud moment off the pitch, with the 2025 Macca’s City Cup recognised as a finalist for Community Sporting Event of the Year at the Victorian Sport Awards.

The annual tournament has continued to grow as one of the standout junior football events in the country, bringing together clubs, players and families from across Australia for a weekend of competition, connection and celebration of the game at the City Football Academy, Melbourne – ctrl:cyber Campus.

Held in March last year, the Macca’s City Cup once again showcased the strength of grassroots football, providing young players with the opportunity to play in a professionally delivered tournament environment while building friendships and lifelong memories along the way.

Melbourne City CEO Brad Rowse said the tournament’s success was built on strong collaboration across the football community.

“The Macca’s City Cup is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared vision,” Rowse said.

“Through our partnership with the City of Casey, McDonald’s and Australian Football Skool, we’re creating meaningful opportunities for young players and delivering a tournament that truly reflects the strength of our football community.”

City of Casey Mayor Stefan Koomen said the event continued to deliver strong outcomes both on and off the pitch.

“In a fast-growing community like Casey, partnerships like this are essential. This nomination highlights what can be achieved when we work together, while also attracting significant visitation to the region,” Koomen said.

“Events like the Macca’s City Cup not only connect our community through the power of football, but also deliver real economic benefits – contributing more than $1.2 million to the local economy.”

The event has become a key fixture on the junior football calendar, reflecting Melbourne City’s ongoing commitment to developing the game at a community level.

This latest recognition highlights not only the scale and success of the tournament, but also its impact beyond the pitch.

Being named a finalist at the Victorian Sport Awards is a testament to the hard work of staff, volunteers, participating clubs and families who help make the Macca’s City Cup such a special event each year.

Winners will be announced at the Victorian Sport Awards ceremony later this year.
