WORLD CUP BOUND: Three City Powerchair stars selected by Australia

Melbourne City is proud to celebrate the selection of three of its powerchair footballers in the Australian Poweroos squad for the upcoming FIPFA Powerchair Football World Cup.

Shaun Mott, Luke David and Rebecca Evans have all been named in the eight-player national squad set to represent Australia in Buenos Aires, Argentina this October, marking a significant achievement for both the players and the Club’s powerchair program.

The trio’s selection comes just days after City’s strong showing at the 2026 APFA Club Championships, where the team secured a third-place finish following a competitive campaign.

After finishing top of the table in the round robin stage, City’s push for back-to-back national titles came to an end in a dramatic Semi Final clash with River City Powerchair FC. Locked at 0-0 after regular time, the match was decided by penalties, with City narrowly falling 7-8.

Reflecting on the result, the team acknowledged the disappointment of missing out on the final but remained proud of the level maintained throughout the tournament and the growth shown across the squad.

City then faced Newcastle Jets in the third-place play-off, with the match once again going down to penalties. After an extended shootout without a miss from either side, both teams agreed to share the result, securing a third-place finish.

The City trio now turn their attention to the international stage, where they’re set to don the green and gold.

The FIPFA Powerchair Football World Cup will bring together some of the world’s best teams, with Australia set to face strong competition from across Europe, the UK, Asia and the Americas.

Melbourne City congratulates Shaun, Luke and Rebecca on their well-deserved selection and wishes the Poweroos all the best as they prepare for the World Cup.
