HIGH PRAISE: Michael Matricciani named among world’s best by ESPN

Melbourne City Women’s Head Coach Michael Matricciani has been named among ESPN’s Top 20 women’s club football managers globally, recognition that places him alongside some of the most respected names in the game.

For those who have followed City’s campaign closely, the acknowledgement comes as little surprise.

Check out ESPN’s top women’s club managers in the world.

The team has already secured a third consecutive Premiership, continuing to set the benchmark in the A-League Women, with attention now turning to the Finals Series and an AFC Women’s Champions League Semi Final.

Having joined the Club on the eve of the 2024/25 season, Matricciani made an immediate impact in his first season as a professional manager, leading City to a historic invincible campaign, before securing another Premiership this season.

Matricciani has been central to that success, overseeing a side with a clear identity, strong standards and the ability to perform consistently. Just as importantly, the environment within the squad has enabled players to continue developing and delivering throughout the season.

The global recognition reflects both the Head Coach’s impact and the level the group has reached, reinforcing City’s position within the women’s game.

With Finals football approaching and the opportunity to push further in Asia, there is still plenty to play for in the weeks ahead.

Matricciani and his side will commence their finals campaign this Saturday afternoon, as they take on Melbourne Victory in Leg 1 of their Semi Final. Get your tickets here.
