Taylor Otto departs after historic era in City blue

Melbourne City defender Taylor Otto will depart the Club following the conclusion of her contract to pursue a new opportunity abroad.

The 28-year-old American leaves after three outstanding seasons in City blue, making 82 appearances across all competitions and scoring six goals while establishing herself as one of the Ninja A-League’s best central defenders.

Since arriving ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, Otto played a central role in one of the most successful periods in the Club’s history, helping City secure three consecutive Premierships and the 2025/26 Ninja A-League Championship, while also reaching the inaugural AFC Women’s Champions League Final.

Otto was a constant presence at the heart of City’s defence, with her composure, consistency and leadership making her a cornerstone of the Club’s success.

Her performances were recognised with the Club’s 2024/25 Player of the Year award, while she also served as Vice-Captain across her final two seasons.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo paid tribute to Otto’s contribution to the Club.

“Taylor has been a fantastic player for our Women’s program and a key figure in everything the team has achieved over the past three seasons,” Petrillo said.

“Her leadership, consistency and quality at the heart of defence have been invaluable, and she leaves having made a lasting impact on Melbourne City.

“We thank Taylor for everything she has given to the Club and wish her every success in the next chapter of her career.”

Otto said she would always treasure her time at Melbourne City.

“I’ll always be incredibly grateful for my time at Melbourne City,” Otto said.

“From the moment I arrived, everyone at the Club made me feel at home. Over the past three seasons, I’ve been lucky enough to create memories and friendships that will stay with me forever.

“To have shared so much success with such an incredible group of players and staff has meant so much to me, and I’m so proud of everything we achieved together.

“Thank you to my teammates, coaches, staff and our amazing fans for all the support you’ve shown me. Melbourne City will always hold a very special place in my heart, and I’ll be cheering the Club on from afar.”
