A season to remember for our City Women could yet have another couple of accolades to come.
After securing a record-breaking third consecutive Ninja A-League Premiership before lifting the Championship trophy for the first time since 2020, two standout performers from our 2025/26 campaign have been recognised among Professional Footballers Australia’s end-of-season award nominees.
Leticia McKenna is in contention for the Young Women’s Footballer of the Year, while former City striker Holly McNamara has been nominated for the top individual honour – the Women’s Footballer of the Year.
For McKenna, the nomination caps another memorable year in City blue.
The midfielder brought up her 100th appearance for the Club, earned her maiden Matildas call-up and debut, and played a key role throughout our double-winning campaign.
And when the biggest moment arrived, she delivered.
After McNamara struck twice in the space of just two minutes to put City 2-0 ahead in the Grand Final, McKenna added another just four minutes into the second half to give us a commanding three-goal lead.
Wellington Phoenix would pull one back shortly after, but City held firm to secure a memorable Championship triumph, with McKenna’s strike proving another huge moment in an unforgettable decider.
McNamara had already taken centre stage by then.
Our former number nine’s quickfire double in the 41st and 43rd minutes set the Grand Final alight, before she went on to claim Player of the Match honours and cap off another prolific season in City colours.
The brace also bookended a campaign that saw McNamara claim the Ninja A-League Golden Boot for the second consecutive year before departing City for the next chapter of her career in England.
Now preparing for her first Women’s Super League campaign with Everton, the former City star has been recognised among the contenders for the PFA Women’s Footballer of the Year following her brilliant final season in Melbourne.
While attention at City is quickly turning towards preparations for our Premiership and Championship defence, there could still be another couple of final reasons to celebrate the campaign just gone.
