Melbourne City FC is delighted to announce the signing of American striker Kelli McGroarty for the 2026/27 campaign.
McGroarty earns her first professional contract after an outstanding debut season in Australia with Essendon Royals in the National Premier League Women’s (NPLW) competition.
The 24-year-old proved a prolific presence in front of goal, scoring an eye-catching 33 times in 25 appearances to comfortably claim the NPLW Golden Boot.
Her form only improved as the year progressed, with McGroarty finding the back of the net 19 times across her final 14 regular season appearances to earn the opportunity to step up to the professional level with City.
Before arriving in Australia, McGroarty enjoyed a successful NCAA Division I college career in the United States, representing La Salle University and the University of Iowa.
An out-and-out striker with a natural eye for goal and strong work rate, McGroarty adds another attacking option to Michael Matricciani’s squad as City prepares to defend its domestic titles and compete in a third consecutive AFC Women’s Champions League campaign.
Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo said McGroarty’s recent performances had earned her an opportunity at the professional level.
“The impact Kelli has made since arriving in Australia was impossible for our coaching staff to ignore, and scoring 33 goals in her first NPLW season is an outstanding achievement,” Petrillo said.
“She’s earned this opportunity through her performances and gives us another dynamic option in attack. We’re excited to see what she can achieve in her first season as a professional.”
McGroarty said she was delighted to join Melbourne City and continue her football journey in Australia.
“My time in Australia has been incredible so far, and I’m so excited to now have the opportunity to sign my first professional contract with Melbourne City,” McGroarty said.
“I came here wanting to challenge myself, so to earn the opportunity to take the next step with a Club like City is really special. I can’t wait to get started and test myself at the professional level.”
