Princess lands in Melbourne

Melbourne City FC has completed its Women’s squad for the 2026/27 season, securing another major attacking addition with the signing of experienced forward Princess Ibini.

The 26-year-old returns to Australian football following a stint with Turkish giants Beşiktaş, bringing a wealth of Ninja A-League experience and a proven winning pedigree to Michael Matricciani’s squad.

Having made her professional debut at just 15 years of age, Ibini has gone on to establish herself as one of the competition’s most accomplished attackers, scoring 31 goals in 160 appearances to sit sixth on the league’s all-time appearances list.

Her impressive domestic career has also included three Premierships and three Championships, adding further silverware-winning experience to City’s reigning double-winning squad.

Ibini’s performances at club level have also earned international recognition, with the dynamic forward capped eight times by the Matildas, scoring one international goal.

Comfortable operating across the front third, Ibini adds another exciting attacking option for Matricciani alongside Cortnee Vine and Melina Ayres, further strengthening a formidable City frontline.

The experienced attacker is expected to arrive in Melbourne in the coming days and join the team in training.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo said Ibini’s arrival was an exciting final addition to the Club’s refreshed squad.

“To secure a player of Princess’ quality and experience at this stage is a fantastic outcome for our Women’s program,” Petrillo said.

“She has an outstanding record in the Ninja A-League, knows what it takes to win trophies and brings further attacking quality and versatility to an already strong group.

“Princess’ signing completes what has been an exciting squad build, and we’re looking forward to seeing this group come together as we aim to build on last season’s success.”

Ibini said she was excited to return to Australia and begin a new chapter with Melbourne City.

“I’m really happy to be back in Australia, and when the opportunity came to join Melbourne City, it was one I couldn’t pass up,” Ibini said.

“The success the Club has enjoyed in recent years has been incredible, and you can see the standards and ambition that exist within the Women’s program.

“I’m excited to meet my new teammates, get into training and do everything I can to contribute to another successful season for City.”
