MATRICCIANI: We know it’s all on us

Our City Women continued their remarkable unbeaten run across the ditch on Sunday, taking care of Wellington Phoenix thanks to a first half Holly McNamara goal.

It means City’s undefeated streak now stands at 25 games across all competitions, with Head Coach Michael Matricciani still yet to taste defeat since taking the reins.

He spoke with media after securing another valuable three points in the Premiers Plate race.

ON THE PAST WEEK

“This has been a tough week for us – playing three games in seven days with the Champions League Quarter Final and then midweek in Brisbane.

“We’ve been here (Wellington) for three days, which has been beautiful. We’ve been able to recover well, acclimatise and get used to this beautiful town. (I) Enjoyed the match today – it was good to keep a clean sheet and win.”

ON THE DECISIVE GOAL

“It was a super goal – she’s (Holly McNamara) a top player.

“It was a good play, Leah Davidson switched it out to Lourdes Bosch and she’s cut it back for a great team goal.

“I feel we created a number of chances today and probably limited them to only a handful of half-chances, so all in all, very pleasing.”

ON IF THE GAP IS ENOUGH TO TAKE OUT THE PLATE

“Two points is never enough. Obviously, it’s five, they (Melbourne Victory) have a game in hand.

“We were watching last night… when Adelaide scored late, we were cheering, but we know it’s all on us.

“You want to be in a position of strength, and we’re two points clear with goal difference as well. Two games (remaining), two wins, and we’ll will win the Premiership again.”
