The clash

In the squad’s third match in six days, Melbourne City will be looking for a much needed three points as they take on Western Sydney Wanderers at AAMI Park on Tuesday night.

City come into the clash off the back of a hard-earned point against league leaders Perth Glory on Saturday night and will look to keep in touch with the leading pack as they face a struggling Wanderers side.

Despite their plight, Markus Babbel’s men have put up a fight in recent weeks, narrowly going down to Adelaide United without the assistance of VAR and leading Perth Glory 3-1 until the 79th minute where they were overrun by the rampant Glory side.

An injection of youth and enthusiasm at the Wanderers has made them an unpredictable match up, an element not unknown to City who faced them on New Year’s Day.

A Eugene Galekovic masterclass kept City ahead on at ANZ Stadium but this week’s hosts will be fully aware of the threat of the wounded Wanderer as the players look to impress for next season.

With it all on the line for both sides, we’re set for a cracking contest at AAMI Park.

Team News

Dario Vidosic and Osama Malik return to the selection mix with both players given the full amount of time to prove their fitness for the contest. See our full team news.

Last time they met

City got the job done on New Year’s Day as two goals in two minutes put Warren Joyce’s men up at the break. An inspired second half from Eugene Galekovic kept City’s sheets clean as 2019 started off with three points.

What was said

Head Coach Warren Joyce

“They [Western Sydney] have been a dangerous side over the past couple of weeks. They’ve troubled a few sides and they put up a fight against us last match. We’ll go out there and make sure we do our jobs on and off the ball and head out to take all three points.”
