Melbourne City FC’s Westfield W-League team will be bolstered by the return of midfielder Aivi Luik ahead of Sunday’s match against Adelaide United at Lakeside Stadium.
Luik, 32, returns from the Norweigan Toppserien when she featured in 21 matches with Oslo’s Vålerenga, including the domestic cup final in November.
Luik has been a crucial figure in City’s previous W-League campaigns, featuring in 28 matches across two seasons. The dynamic midfielder was crowned the Club’s W-League Player of the Year in City’s inaugural season, in which the team claimed the Premiership-Championship double without losing a single match.
Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo said Luik’s return would be a welcome addition to City’s squad;
“Aivi is a great competitor who shows great determination and character in every performance. Her positive attitude and work ethic both on and off the pitch makes her a fantastic role model for the younger players in the group.
“Having been an integral part of our success over the last two seasons, Aivi’s experience will add considerable strength to our midfield and we’re delighted to have her on board again this season.”
After re-signing with the Club for a third season, Luik said there’s nowhere she’d rather be;
“I’m delighted to be back at Melbourne City for a third season. This Club is like a family and I feel so blessed to be part of such a professional environment.”
“I’ve spent the last eight months playing football in Norway but I feel settled back here in Melbourne and I’m looking forward to helping the team achieve more success this season.”
“We’re really motivated for Sunday’s match against Adelaide and we’re hoping to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.”
Luik and City return to W-League action against Adelaide United at Lakeside Stadium on Sunday 3 December, kick-off at 5pm.
