CALLED UP: City trio named in Socceroos squad

Exciting times are on the horizon for a trio of City stars, with Football Australia today naming the Socceroos squad to take on Ecuador in a pair of friendlies later this month.

Defender Jordan Bos and midfielder Aiden O’Neill have both been called up for the first time, while Marco Tilio has also been named in the 26-man squad.

A pair of Australia’s World Cup stars – City forwards Mathew Leckie and Jamie Maclaren – were both unavailable for selection in this international window due to injury.

Bos and O’Neill’s call-ups come in the midst of career-best seasons with City, the star duo’s strong play one of the big reasons why City sits six points clear on top of the table with a game in hand.

Most recently O’Neill scored a pair of cracking goals in a Player of the Match performance to give City a 2-1 win over Brisbane, while Bos was on the scoresheet for the first time this season a few weeks prior with a goal of the season contender in the away win over Perth.

Tilio has started all but two fixtures since returning from Qatar and has five goals and six assists to his name in what has also been the best campaign of his young career.

The City trio are also joined in the squad by a pair of former teammates in Academy products Nathaniel Atkinson and Connor Metcalfe, who continue to go from strength to strength in Europe.
