City become W-League Champions: Social Media Reaction

Across the football world, the magnitude of Melbourne City FC’s perfect season echoed throughout social media after the Club lifted the Westfield W-League Championship with a 4-1 win over Sydney FC on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Scottish duo Jennifer Beattie and Kim Little, young striker Beattie Goad and Matildas captain Lisa De Vanna sealed a memorable Grand Final win in front of 4,206 passionate fans at AAMI Park.

The 4-1 win was the perfect finale to the Club’s astonishing inaugural campaign in Women’s Football, with Joe Montemurro’s side becoming the first team in W-League history to secure a Championship and Premiership double without losing a single match.

Several players from City’s Grand Final winning side were quick to continue the post-match celebrations on Social Media, with Matildas stars Steph Catley and Laura Alleway, co-captain Jess Fishlock and goal scorer Beattie expressing their delight at the Club’s historic achievement.

Members of City’s Hyundai A-League team were also full of praise for Joe Montemurro’s side, congratulating their W-League counterparts on recording a perfect season.

The response wasn’t just restricted to Australia, with English Premier League giants Manchester City ensuring the Club’s success was recognised on a global scale – including a message of support from Manchester City Women’s star Toni Duggan.
