Melbourne City FC’s Westfield FFA Cup title defence will commence with a Round of 32 clash against Football Queensland club side Peninsula Power.

City will enter the 2017 Westfield FFA Cup as defending Champions, having lifted its first-ever senior men’s trophy with a 1-0 win over Sydney FC at AAMI Park in the 2016 edition of the competition last November.

City’s 2017 first round opponents, who play in the Brisbane Premier League, were revealed in Thursday’s FFA Cup draw, conducted live in the Fox Sports News studio in Sydney.

Last season the Club commenced its triumphant 2016 campaign with a Round of 32 win over Western Australian side Floreat Athena with a 2-1 win in August at Dorrien Gardens in Perth.

A Bruno Fornaroli double from the penalty spot saw City progress to the Quarter Finals at the expense of a determined Brisbane Strikers 2-1 in September, before City swept aside fellow A-League opponent Western Sydney Wanderers 4-1 at AAMI Park in September.

A strong Semi-Final performance over rivals Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park earned City a first-ever Grand Final berth in October, before Tim Cahill’s header decided the finale on November 30, with the high-profile encounter against Sydney FC drawing a record FFA Cup crowd of 18,751 to AAMI Park.

Dates, kick off times and venues for the 2017 Round of 32 will be confirmed by Football Federation Australia on Monday.
