City hold inaugural City World Cup tournament

Melbourne City held its first City World Cup for junior teams during the school holidays, celebrating Multicultural Harmony Week.

Teams from across Melbourne were invited to the CFA Academy Pitches to take part in a round robin tournament where each side were given a national team to compete on behalf of during the day.

They were also asked to complete posters about their nation, including information on their footballing history and were judged on creativity with the winning poster receiving signed Melbourne City merchandise.

All teams got into the spirit of the tournament, dressing to their country’s colours and seeing some classic World Cup fixtures including an epic between France and Italy.

The eventual winners were England, who were represented by Glen Eira Soccer Club, defeated France in a tight final that saw the runners-up hit the bar in the final minutes to fall just short.

Glen Eira were invited to our final home match of the season against Adelaide United where they watched the match from the benches and received a special behind the scenes tour of AAMI Park.

The Club would like to thank everyone who participated in the event. Stay tuned for our June/July School Holiday Clinics.
