City sign goalkeeper Sophia Varley, announce squad for Newcastle

WL

Melbourne City FC can today announce the signing of Victorian goalkeeper Sophia Varley.

Varley has been training with City throughout the season and the 17-year-old who is a member of Football Victoria’s NTC program has now been signed for the remainder of the 2020/21 Westfield W-League campaign.

City make this signing following a knee injury to Teagan Micah which saw her miss Thursday’s match against Western Sydney, although she did sit on the bench.

She is the only out from City’s squad but is expected to miss just a  week and be available for the teams next match, an away trip to Perth.

Varley comes straight into the squad for Sunday afternoons clash against the Jets, while Margot Robinne has been promoted and Teigen Allen is also included and is a chance to return from injury.
