Colosimo – We Must Build On Foundations

Club Captain Simon Colosimo says it is critical Melbourne Heart FC builds upon the foundations it has laid during the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season.

Club Captain Simon Colosimo says it is critical Melbourne Heart FC builds upon the foundations it has laid during the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season.

Colosimo said Heart-s debut season provided a glimpse into the immense potential within the side, as evidenced by a stellar run in the final stages of the season.

But the Socceroo believes the team needs to develop a killer instinct if it is to fulfil its potential and reach the Hyundai A-League Finals Series.

“I think there-s a very good foundation set, not only on the field but off the field. On the field, we set about playing a certain brand of football,” he said.

“We achieved in playing that, but not necessarily in getting the results we wanted while playing it. Next season is about continuing to play that brand of football, and adding the results onto it.”

Colosimo though is confident Heart-s football philosophy will ultimately yield success.

“Hopefully, this season, that settling phase has gone, and it-s about everyone being accountable, doing a great job and picking up enough points to play finals football,” he said.

“We-ve got some great leaders, a couple who are a little bit younger, but are leaders in their own right. We do share the load a bit, but if you look at some of our leaders Matt Thompson, Clint Bolton, Wayne Srhoj, Kristian Sarkies, there are a few boys there who have played a number of games.

“We are 161 days away from our first kick, and I-m counting every one of them.”
