Connor Metcalfe takes out 2021/22 Alex Tobin Medal

Melbourne City FC midfielder Connor Metcalfe has won the Alex Tobin Medal for season 2021/22, Channel 10 announced on Saturday night.

Metcalfe finished with 21 votes – tied with Sydney FC’s Anthony Caceras – but was awarded the Medal on a count-back following more Player of the Match performances.

Teammate Florin Berenguer finished in sixth place, two votes behind with 19.

Votes were given on a 3-2-1 basis by commentators following every match of the season, and Metcalfe receives a $10k prize while his junior club South Cardiff FC will receive an Isuzu UTE.

In his final season with City before departing for Europe, Metcalfe made 22 appearances after missing a handful of matches through Socceroos duty. He scored two goals and provided a further five assists, impressing with his consistency throughout City’s campaign.

He finished the season with an impressive passing accuracy of 85.3%, made 33 key passes and showcased his work-rate from box-to-box, also having 25 clearances and 29 interceptions.

Metcalfe will be looking to play a big role in helping City become the first A-League Men team to win back-to-back doubles, as the team kicks off its Finals campaign with on Wednesday night against Adelaide United. Click here to get your Finals tickets!
