As we count down to the kick off of the Hyundai A-League season, we look at the significance of the number 24!

Our countdown to the A-League continues and with just 24 days to go, we look at the number 24 and how it has featured in the past, present and future at Melbourne Heart.

Starting with Gerald Sibon, who signed for Heart in the Club-s inaugural season under fellow Dutchman John van-t Schip, the Red and White’s former number nine started 24 matches in the 2010-11 and three made appearances off the bench and firmed as a fan favourite with his performances.

Sibon established himself as a playmaker, but while he fashioned opportunities for his teammates, he contributed seven goals, making him Heart-s second top-scorer for the 2010-11 season, and possessed a dangerous free-kick within his armoury.

Sibon made 24 appearances for Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam between 1997-1999, while he scored 24 goals for Heerenveen in 84 appearances during his first stint at the Eredivise side between 2007-10.

Nikola Roganovic did not feature as frequently as Sibon throughout his stint with Heart, but he did wear the number 24 shirt throughout the 2011-12 campaign.

This season we meet Newcastle Jets at AAMI Park on November 24 , while we welcome Sydney FC and Alessandro Del Piero to Melbourne on February 24.
