Everyone needs their own Blakey!

One of the unsung heroes of Melbourne City, Blake Henderson has been with the Club since day one and is one of the most important people within our City family.

‘Blakey’ – as he’s affectionately known to our players, coaches and staff – is one of the most passionate City people you’re ever likely to meet.

Blake has provided his services across a number of different departments, and throughout the last 11 years, we’re still yet to hear the word ‘no’ come out of his mouth.

He was diagnosed with a brain tumour in his teen’s, but despite a long and complicated medical history, you’ll never see Blakey without a smile on his face, especially when he’s working at AAMI Park watching his City boys!

“Working at Melbourne City has been a lifelong dream of mine,” Blake said.

Blakey holds up the Premiers Plate following City’s triumph earlier this year.

“Throughout my time at City I have had some amazing experiences such as working multiple derbies home and away, working away trips to Adelaide, Wellington and Perth, as well as working for corporate at the FFA Cup Final win.

“My number one favourite moment though would have to be the night we won the Grand Final against Sydney.”

Having been a Club partner since 2012, we are proud to continue to work with MatchWorks to ensure we are bringing in the best people to our Club.

MatchWorks provide a hassle-free, fast and easy recruitment process which has seen the Club bring in a number of great people, such as Blake Henderson.

Melbourne City Head of Infrastructure Ian Wilson’s experience with MatchWorks has been nothing but enjoyable.

“I have worked with Matchworks when recruiting for various facilities roles and all of my dealings with MatchWorks staff have been top class. They’re highly professional whilst retaining the most important aspect of recruitment…that the people come first.

“I would highly recommend MatchWorks to any employer looking for good people like our Blakey.”

Best evidenced was the roar Blakey received from ‘The Terrace’ post our Championship win, Blakey is a much-loved member of the City family and the heart of soul of our Club.

“Blakey leads by example to help set a positive culture, it’s contagious and uplifting for the whole organisation. Attitude is everything, it’s a real win for all personnel and the organisation,” Melbourne City CEO Brad Rowse said.

“He’s been with us since day one and would have to be one of the most passionate people we have.”

He’s has had a number of different roles such as Events Assistant, Facilities Assistant as well as doing plenty of work in our City in the Community programs.

“City has taught me so many new skills, given me some amazing experience and I have made lifelong friends,” Blakey said.

“The staff, players and fans see me for who I am and not someone who has a disability.”
