Brisbane Strikers finalised their preparations for the Westfield FFA Cup on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against Brisbane City at Perry Park.

With one eye on Wednesday’s televised cup fixture, the Strikers rested key players for the contest against John Kosmina’s Brisbane City as Rhys Meredith and Jonti Richter took their place on the bench for the contest.

The result ensured Brisbane City would not play in the NPL Queensland Finals Series with the Strikers already qualifying for the post-season playoffs.

After an even first half, the Strikers opened the scoring through Trent Clulow before Samuel Sibatuara converted from the spot to restore parity.

City continued to push for the winner and were close to taking the lead in the final minutes of the match however Simon Biels’ strike rattled the side netting to ensure FFA Cup giant-killers Redlands United would qualify for the Finals Series.

Melbourne City take on Brisbane Strikers in the Round of 16 of the Westfield FFA Cup on Wednesday, kick-off 7.30pm. See the match on Fox Sports 505.
