FFA Cup Semi Final: 5 things to look forward to

We’re set for a huge FFA Cup Semi Final clash with Brisbane Strikers. See the five things we’re looking forward to ahead of the clash.

The Magic of the Cup

City will be looking to keep their hopes of a second FFA Cup trophy alive when they head to Queensland to take on the Brisbane Strikers at Perry Park.

New this season, Head Coach Erick Mombaerts has had an impressive start to life in charge, with the team producing three comprehensive performances in the Cup – the manager’s first competitive fixtures at the helm.

With a place in the FFA Cup Final on the line, Mombaerts and his men will be looking to extend their cup form.

Keep them coming

Jamie Maclaren’s newly formed partnership with Englishman Craig Noone has defenders feeling a little nervy.

The attacking duo have combined for eight goals in City’s opening three knockout games, netting four goals apiece.

With a mix of impressive long-range goals and intelligent finishes, the pair have showcased their attacking threat and ever-dangerous presence. With Brisbane Strikers up next and a place in the final two on the line, there is no doubt that both Maclaren and Noone will be looking to continue their red-hot form in front of goal.

Too Good

As notable as our attacking duo have been this FFA Cup, the partnership and understanding between our two central defenders, Curtis Good and Harrison Delbridge, has been equally as impressive.

Against a fellow Hyundai A-League side, Western Sydney Wanderers, who were coming off an emphatic 7-1 in the Round of 16, both Good and Delbridge took control at AAMI Park.

The defensive pair nullified the Wanderers threat from the onset, setting the tone for the remainder of the match. With captain Scott Jamieson on one side and new recruit Scott Galloway on the other, City’s defensive four will be looking to continue their strong start when they take on the Strikers.

Brissy calling

There’s no doubt that Tuesday night’s clash at Perry Park will be a tough contest.

The Strikers are riding the high emotions that come with the Magic of the Cup. A strong run of results, including knocking out Hyundai A-League outfit Wellington Phoenix, has seen them qualify for the Semi Finals.

It’s a match that will be the first of its kind in Queensland, and a game that the Strikers will be eager to impress in!

Do or die

A place in the FFA Cup Final is on the line, it’s do or die and we’re ready!

We’ve been there once before, and the boys are ready to have another crack at claiming FFA Cup glory.
