Five things to look forward to: City v Western Sydney

Our final pre-season match is here as we take on Western Sydney Wanderers in Shepparton. See the five things we are looking forward to.

Black, Red Redemption

It hasn’t taken long for our A-League side to get the chance at redemption – albeit in the pre-season – for their FFA Cup Quarter Final exit this season.

To say the result was disappointing was an understatement but many in the stands felt it wasn’t all doom and gloom for City who looked dominant for the majority of the contest.

We all have bad days and that FFA Cup Quarter Final was one of them but Friday night presents the chance for Warren Joyce’s men to show their strong pre-season form against Western Sydney and prove that FFA Cup match was indeed a ‘once-off’.

Derby dress rehearsal

Black, red redemption is important but preparations for the blockbuster Round 1 Melbourne Derby is more important and Friday will be our final match before we head to Marvel Stadium for one of the biggest fixtures in Australian football.

The squad is set and raring to go after a three-month pre-season and the final match of this period is here. We expect the side for the Derby to be very similar to Friday night’s squad so make sure you are there to get your form guide ahead of the Derby.

Shepp’s the word

Friday night’s contest will be the fourth time we’ve headed to Shepparton in our history as we embark on a three-year partnership with the Greater Shepparton Council to bring pre-season matches to the region.

The newly-renovated Shepparton Sports City at McEwan Reserve is a state-of-the-art facility that we can’t wait to enjoy on Friday so make sure you head down the highway and see your City. Get your tickets online before the contest.

Wales like Bale(s)

Isn’t it a little ironic that Lachie Wales plays a lot like Gareth Bale. The City youngster had a field day last time out against the Wanderers and he will look to do it again on Friday night.

He’s been a revelation this pre-season with his endeavour and sheer will to get the job done for his team and expect him to play a role this season as he looks to lock down a starting spot.
