Fixture breakdown: What the 2022/23 ALM draw means for you

The 2022/23 A-League Men fixture was officially released today, with the season just over 70 days away from kicking off.

There’s plenty of big news to come out of the announcement, so we’ve broken down all the talking points you need to know ahead of what is set to be a massive season.

An early Grand Final re-match

City won’t have to wait long to get another crack at Western United, as we host last season’s Grand Final opponent to open the 2022/23 season on Friday 7 October.

While fans will certainly be hoping for a different result to the last time the two sides met, we’ll all be looking forward to once again seeing plenty of City blue flooding AAMI Park as it did that night.

A fixture fit for the whole family

There will be lots of opportunities to bring the whole family along to AAMI Park this season, which a much more family friendly fixture on the cards than previous seasons.

City will play three home matches at 3:00pm, one at 4:00pm, and another five at 5:00pm, ensuring our younger fans will have plenty of chances to see their heroes up close in 2022/23.

The tradition continues

2021 saw one of the most iconic Christmas Derbies in recent memory, featuring brilliant goals and an incredible atmosphere for a fiery 2-2 draw.

The fixture once again returns for 2022/23, with City hosting the must-see contest on Saturday 17 December.

We’ll also play away Melbourne Derbies at AAMI Park against Victory on Saturday 22 October and Saturday 18 February.

Easter Monday Football

In what’s set to be the perfect way to cap off your Easter long weekend, City football is coming to AAMI Park on Easter Monday in 2023! We’ll host Wellington Phoenix in a 4pm kick-off on Monday the 10th of April.

Our 2022/23 fixture also sees us play one other weekday home fixture, with the boys to take on Central Coast at 5pm on Tuesday 27 December, right in the middle of your Christmas/New Year break!

Away Days

There’s of course plenty of great opportunities for City fans to travel and support the team this coming season, with a few fixtures immediately popping out.

We’ll play at the recently renovated Allianz Stadium for the first time on Saturday 10 December against Sydney FC, and the new season will also see us travel across the Tasman for the first time since February 2020, taking on Wellington at Sky Stadium on Monday 2 January.

Always a popular away trip with fans, we’ll face Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium on Friday 3 March.

International Breaks

For the first time in A-Leagues history, the 2022/23 season will stop for international breaks. All eyes will be on the 2022 FIFA World Cup with no ALM fixtures to be played from November 15-December 8, while the league will also pause for the late March international window.
