Melbourne City FC is delighted to announce the re-signing of French midfielder Florin Berenguer until the end of the 2021/22 season.
Berenguer has spent the past three years at City after joining ahead of the 2018/19 season from French club FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
An influential member of City’s A-League Championship and Premiership winning squad, Berenguer created the third-most chances (40) and boasted an 89% pass completion rate.
The Frenchman has appeared in 64 games for City across all competitions, scoring 4 times and assisting a further 7 goals.
Australia has become a second home for Berenguer’s young family, and he is delighted to be staying for at least another year.
Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo said:
“Florin has developed over the last three years into a key player in our squad. Florin is one of the most technically gifted players in the A-League and he is passionate about the style of football we play.
“I’m delighted that we have been able to secure his signature for another season, he is a Premiership and Championship player, and he wants to win more silverware in 2021/22.”
Florin Berenguer said:
“I’m very happy to re-sign with Melbourne City. My family love this city and its people, and I love being able to play at AAMI Park and be part of this club.
“This team is something special and we have worked so hard over the last few years to improve and achieve success. It was an amazing feeling to be crowned Champions last season and to reward the fantastic City fans.
“Winning trophies is why you play football and I want to win more with City.”
