Melbourne Heart FC has reached a major milestone in its development by announcing leading financial institution WESTPAC as the club-s inaugural principal partner.

WESTPAC has signed a three-year agreement with the Hyundai A-League newcomers in an unprecedented show of support for the development of football at both an elite and grassroots level in Australia.

The watershed partnership will see Heart and WESTPAC spread the word of football to provincial communities around Victoria, bringing elite level sport to local branches through a series of multi-day events.

Heart will stage three ‘WESTPAC Community Football Festivals- throughout June, encompassing the Geelong and Gippsland regions, with a further venue still to be determined.

The events will see Heart and WESTPAC spend three days engaging with the football and business community in each city and town, hosting clinics and events before challenging a local club in a friendly match.

The ‘WESTPAC Community Football Festival- will also feature Melbourne Heart FC-s ‘Coach the Coach- program, where Head Coach John van ‘t Schip will educate local football clubs on the latest tactical and technical innovations in the game.

Melbourne Heart CEO Scott Munn believes the partnership with WESTPAC marks an important step in club history, saying the agreement affirms its commitment to develop into a team truly representative of the wider Victorian community.

“WESTPAC is undoubtedly one of the premier brands in corporate Australia, and we are delighted to have the company on board as our principal partner,” he said.

“Although Melbourne Heart FC is in its infancy, the club is steadfast in the belief that it bears a distinct responsibility to further the cause of football throughout the state, utilising its resources and coaching expertise to help inspire the next generation of Victorians.

“I would like to thank for WESTPAC for sharing our vision and joining us as we make our first tentative footsteps into a world unknown. Together, WESTPAC and Melbourne Heart FC will strive to boost the game at grassroots level and offer a hand in friendship to communities around the state.”

WESTPAC State General Manager, Regional Victoria, Mark Paton said: “WESTPAC is really excited about this new partnership with Melbourne Heart, particularly the opportunity to take football out to regional Victoria with the Westpac Community Football Festival”.
