Melbourne Heart FC CEO, Scott Munn, today encouraged the club-s supporters to take a responsible approach to their gambling.
The call was made along with CEOs and players from Victoria-s four football codes as part of Responsible Gambling Awareness Week 2011, which will take place from 23 May – 29 May.
Munn urged all supporters who “like a flutter” to heed the over-riding message of Responsible Gambling Awareness Week, which is to take a balanced approach and stay in control.
“We encourage everyone not to let gambling take over their lives,” said Munn.
Research shows that gambling is one of the most distinctive aspects of Australian life. It is estimated that today more than 3.8 million Victorians gamble in one form, or another, with online gambling growing as a popular choice.
However, whichever form of gambling is enjoyed, Scott Mun said the theme of Responsible Gambling Awareness Week -“Knowledge, Balance & Control” – was important, along with the messages:
• Set yourself a limit and don-t exceed it
• Take just your allocated amount of money
• Don-t let gambling take over your life
Responsible Gambling Awareness Week is an initiative between Victorian and Local Governments, the gambling industry and community sectors.
Throughout Responsible Gambling Awareness Week a number of events and activities will be held around the State. These will include forums in suburban and regional centres; information sessions at Gambler-s Help branches; community lunches and forums; information sessions involving local businesses; youth events; and community events involving the Sudanese, Chinese and Vietnamese communities.
