Football Federation Australia has announced Melbourne Heart FC will stage the opening clash of the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season when it faces Central Coast Mariners at AAMI Park on Thursday August 5.

The game is one of 15 home matches set to be held at the stadium during the Heart-s debut campaign, highlighting the Club-s commitment to transforming AAMI Park into its true home ground.

Other highlights of the draw see Heart host the opening two Melbourne derbies against Victory at AAMI Park, with the first clash taking place on Saturday October 2, while the side will face reigning champions Sydney FC for the first time at home on Saturday November 27.

Chief Executive Officer Scott Munn revealed the Club was pleased with the overall outlook of the competition draw.

“The Club was very keen to host the opening game of the season, so we are delighted Football Federation Australia decided to hand us the responsibility of kicking off the Hyundai A-League for 2010/11,” he said.

“Melbourne Heart FC will be the first Hyundai A-League club to stage a competition football match at AAMI Park, which is a great honour for the Club as we enter our debut campaign.

“We are obviously also eagerly anticipating the first ever Melbourne derby between Heart and Victory in October and the follow up encounter at home on Saturday December 11.

“Our derby will hopefully develop into one of the marquee clashes of the competition and an on-field rivalry which will capture the proverbial hearts and minds of all Victorians.”
