In the mix: Sydney FC v City

Melbourne City FC is set to travel to Netstrata Jubilee Stadium this Saturday to take on Sydney FC in what will be a high-stakes mid-season clash between the teams who are meeting for the first time since the 2021 Grand Final.

City has been in strong form on the road in Season 2021/22, winning its past three away fixtures, but will be hoping for an additional boost from the inclusion of some key personnel back into the matchday squad to take on the Sky Blues.

Connor Metcalfe will certainly bolster our prospects this weekend, with the midfielder returning to the squad after serving his one-game suspension for yellow card accumulation against Central Coast Mariners midweek. Metcalfe has started most games in Season 2021/22 and is a strong chance to feature from the start on Saturday as Patrick Kisnorbo looks to manage the fatigue levels of his midfielders.

The midfield three of Florin Berenguer, Marco Tilio and Aiden O’Neill has proven a successful mix in our past two games, so fans will be eagerly awaiting the team news tomorrow evening.

The City Head Coach will also hope to welcome back Scott Jamieson, who has missed the team’s last two fixtures following a hamstring injury sustained against Adelaide United just under two weeks ago. Kisnorbo confirmed in Friday morning’s pre-match press conference that Jamieson was on track to travel with the team, but would need to process his fitness in training to assure himself a seat on the plane.

Though the City backline has held up well in the skipper’s absence, there’s no doubting the impact that Jamieson will make upon his return, with his creativity from left-back demonstrated in his two assists this campaign.

The other interesting tidbit to come out of Kisnorbo’s most recent press conference was the news that Tsubasa Endoh was available for selection. City’s Head Coach had previously told reporters that the coaching staff was working on building up the Japanese attacker’s fitness level, but fans may now get their first glimpse at our newest signing.
