International City: Eight return from international duty

Melbourne City FC star Jen Beattie found the back of the net over the weekend for Scotland as eight internationals return ahead of this weekend’s clash against Melbourne Victory.

Kim Little lined up alongside Beattie in Scotland’s UEFA Women’s EURO qualifier, reaching double figures as the Scots defeated Macedonia 10-0.

Little provided two assists on the afternoon, combining with her Melbourne City teammate as Beattie nodded in Scotland’s third.

The result sees Scotland top of the EURO 2017 qualifying Group One’s standings, maintaining its 100% record at the halfway mark.

Jess Fishlock twice pulled on the Welsh jersey in the UEFA Women’s EURO qualifiers.

The midfielder was involved in two goals as Wales defeated Kazakhstan 4-0 before settling for a draw away to Israel on Tuesday.

Wales sit third in Group Eight with four points from four matches.

Rebekah Stott travelled to South America over the weekend as New Zealand twice faced Brazil in two friendlies.

The Football Ferns pulled off a shock 1-0 win against the reigning Copa America champions before Brazil returned fire with a 5-1 victory in the following fixture.

Joe Montemurro’s four Matildas all featured for Australia last Sunday as Alen Stajcic’s side defeated Korea Republic 1-0 in Incheon.

Lisa De Vanna, Steph Catley and Laura Alleway started for the Green and Gold while Larissa Crummer – the Westfield W-League’s leading goal scorer – was introduced as a second half substitute.

 

 

All eight players will be available for Sunday’s Round 3 Westfield W-League fixture against Melbourne Victory at the Kingston Heath Soccer Complex.
