City’s Matildas will be looking to cap off a strong tournament in the United States on Friday as they take on Japan in the final match of the ‘Tournament of Nations’.
The Matildas – alongside the US and Brazil – are all in contention to take out the round robin competition on the final day with a log-jam at the top of the table.
Friday’s opponents Japan are the only side in the competition unable to take the crown and the former World Champions will be looking to prevent their fellow AFC rivals from taking home the trophy at Toyota Park in Illinois.
It was hearbreak last time out for the Matildas as a late Lindsey Horan strike cancelled out Chloe Logarzo’s opener to deny the Aussies pole position for the tournament.
City’s Lydia Williams and Alanna Kennedy started in the contest while Kyah Simon appeared off the bench as the Australian Women’s side were minutes away from toppling the current World Champs.
