Lydia Williams, Elise Kellond-Knight and Tameka Butt have all been selected in the Westfield Matildas 20-player-squad for Australia’s two-match ‘Seven Consulting International Series’ against Chile later this month.
After taking on France and England abroad in October, the Westfield Matildas will return to home soil in November to play fellow 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup contestants Chile in front of anticipated strong crowds in Penrith and Newcastle.
Ahead of the series, Westfield Matildas Head Coach Alen Stajcic highlighted the importance of the series as his squad prepares for next year’s FIFA World Cup.
“Our upcoming matches against Chile represent a key part of our ongoing preparation for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France,” Stajcic said. “With the draw for the tournament being held next month, it is vital that we continue to play and familiarise ourselves with a diverse range of opponents.”
“Chile performed strongly at this year’s Copa America and in October secured a win and draw against South Africa. They (Chile) will be a great challenge for us, but in front of large, vocal home crowds in Penrith and Newcastle I expect us to perform strongly,” he said.
Williams, Kellond-Knight and Butt will go into camp on Monday ahead of the series.
