Caputo scores in Australia U18s 2-1 win over Norway
City young gun Max Caputo found the back of the net in Australia U18s 2-1 win over Norway at the FPF Portugal Sub-18.
Caputo opened the scoring in Portugal inside the opening four minutes when he was slipped through into the box, before finding the back of the net with a composed finish.
It’s the 17-year-old’s second goal for Australia U18s in as many days, after the young striker was on the scoresheet in Australia’s 3-2 loss to England. Caputo’s goal helped Australia hold England level at 2-2 until the 90th minute where they were undone by a last-gasp winner.
Galic, Chinnama and Young Matildas book their ticket to the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup
Daniela Galic, Naomi Chinnama and the Young Matildas have qualified for the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2024 Uzbekistan after a dominant qualifying campaign.
The City duo opened their 2024 AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Round 2 Qualifiers with a 5-0 win over Lebanon, before defeating Iran 3-0 and Vietnam 2-0.
City defender Chinnama started all three matches for the Young Matildas, as 16-year-old Galic was in the starting XI against both Lebanon and Vietnam.
The Young Matildas completed their qualifying campaign undefeated, having not conceded a goal in both Round 1 and 2.
Talbot, Tilio and the Olyroos top Group B, book place in semi-finals
City’s Callum Talbot captained the Olyroos as he lined up alongside club teammate Marco Tilio in an impressive 2-0 win over Mexico on Monday night.
The win saw Australia secure their place in the semi-finals of the Maurice Revello Tournament, which will take place on Friday 16 June in Salon.
Australia went down in their opening match of the tournament against Qatar, as the match finished 0-0 before Qatar prevailed 4-3 on penalties. Tony Vidmar’s side bounced back in their second fixture, defeating Mediterranean Select 3-2 before their win over Mexico.
Antoniou named in Australia’s AFC U17 Asian Cup squad
City Academy product Peter Antoniou has been selected in the Joeys squad for the upcoming AFC U17 Asian Cup in Thailand.
Australia has been drawn in Group C and will face Saudi Arabia (16 June) and China PR (19 June) at Chonburi Stadium before completing the round robin group stage format against Tajikistan (22 June) at Bangkok’s Rajamangala National Stadium.
