Jamieson: I like City’s ambition

City’s latest signing Scott Jamieson has made it clear that he hasn’t selected his Club in Australia for sentimental reasons but the desire to win his and the Club’s first A-League Championship.

After two attempts, Jamieson is yet to achieve the highest domestic honour and the fullback is more than confident he can achieve this at City.

Jamieson spent 12 month abroad in Sweden, citing reasons outside of football for discountinuing the 18-months left on his contract with Allsvenskan side IFK Goteborg and City was the perfect fit for the defender.

“First and foremost it is about winning,” Jamieson said.

“I have a lot of respect for the Wanderers but I didn’t make the decision based on my heart. I made a decision on where is the best fit and where I could enjoy football, be around family and win.

“Last year the Club won the FFA Cup and it was deemed an ‘okay’ season. Some other clubs will deem that as a success.

“I wet my lips a bit with that because it’s a case of not enough, they want more, they want to win and I’ve had two cracks at it and lost both. Out of the next four years, I’m hoping to be able to get at least one, if not a few more.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity given to me by the Club and I hope the next four years are successful and I really make my mark.”

Despite Jamieson’s arrival, the defender is not taking anything for granted, wanting to impress new Head Coach Warren Joyce during the lengthy pre-season process and the experienced customer understands nothing is guaranteed.

“For me, one of the first promises I made after the decision of coming back was that I wasn’t going to rest on my laurels on what I have done previously in the league,” he said.

“I think at this Club, after two or so days, there are some good youngsters here but it’s a case of earining my spot and being on my toes.”

Jamieson and City will continue their pre-season schedule as they prepare for their first competitive match of the season in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 clash with Peninsula Power on Tuesday 1 August.
