Joyce: We’re not approaching it any different

On paper, City will be facing bottom side Brisbane Roar on Friday night but as Head Coach Warren Joyce has learnt during his short time in the A-League, any team can beat one another on their night.

The visitors will be looking to get back onto the winner’s list after picking up a point in their past two fixtures against Sydney and Western Sydney and Joyce’s side are favourites heading into the clash with the improving Roar.

Despite the Roar’s early season form, Joyce will be treating Friday’s contest like any other as he looks to build on his side’s positive start to the season.

“I think it’s disrespectful to say they are bottom of the league because they’ve had some good performances, got good players and a good manager,” Joyce said.

“I think anybody can beat anybody in the whole league. We’re not approaching it any different from any other game.

“You’ve seen bits coming along and we’re a new group, we’re trying to build a new culture and things like that take time.

“We’ve not been any less disappointed in some of the games because you can see things happening. We’ve got to keep building and working and trying to improve every game, that’s our biggest aim every week.”

The Head Coach confirmed there were ‘niggles’ in the camp after a short week and a quick turn around and with Tim Cahill also in the mix after international duty, Joyce says there will be some hard decisions to make.

“[The status of some players] is something we’ll have to assess,” he said.

“We have a few little niggles with a quick turn around so  we’ll have a clearer idea [after training] of who’s available and who’s not so we’ll see what will happen.”

City face Brisbane Roar on Friday night at Suncorp Stadium, kick-off 7.50pm. Watch the match on Fox Sports 505.
