Joyce: We’re taking last week’s positives into Saturday

Melbourne City Head Coach Warren Joyce says he’s looking forward to bringing his side’s positives from last week’s performance against Adelaide to AAMI Park on Saturday as they take on Western Sydney.

City’s 1-1 draw with the Reds last week saw Joyce disappointed with the point away from home and Englishman is sure his side can bring that pressure to fellow Finals contenders, the Wanderers.

In what could be a week one finals preview, Joyce says that prospect has not come into his mind, focusing on getting maximum points in the final matches of the season.

“We can’t plan too far ahead, you have to concentrate on the game tomorrow and get that out of the way and then work towards the game next week,” Joyce said.

“If we just focus our concertation and all of our effort going into the game tomorrow to try and win it, then we’ll break it down the week after and approach it the same.

“It’s obviously a similar side to last week, I thought it was a good performance. I think the last few weeks has been good without getting what we deserve out of it.

“It typified in last week’s performance but tomorrow is a game like every other game between now and the end of the season and we have to win tomorrow.”

A big part of the positive performances has been the squad consistency starting to pay dividends for City and the Head Coach says it has played a major role in his side’s successes this season.

“We’ve had our better results when we have had some consistency around the team,” he said.

“Players need to play together to build and understand what they are doing and we are striving to do that. At the late stage of the season, it’s – in a way – the third side we have put together with different personnel.

“I thought there were a lot of positives last week and we are looking to build on that this week and carry that on tomorrow.”
